Patagonia 8.12.05

I have been in the garage all day my air brakes had a problem, they kept losing their ail. Also the lock on my back door broke whilst going along and the door flew open!! The 1st aid box fell out, but Norman picked it up - he thought a coach had dropped it and that he had had a good find :DD, but I took it back, you know the one that is in a proper aliminum box and looks very posh :D I also lost the wind out for the blind which did not get picked up.

PATAGONIA SO FAR..........................................

Patagonia is wild - windy, an endless expanse of nothingness, someone once wrote but............it is home too, like the rest of Sth America that we have been to so far, the most friendly and hospitable of people I have ever met. It has amazing wild life; the largest concentration of Guanacos and Rheas on the coast, plus Foxes, Patagonia Hares and Maras. Thousands of Birds and the most awesome of sea creatures and their breeding grounds, Sea Lions, Elephant Seals, Penguins - who walk their Penguin highways that link their nests with the sea even when cross the tourist paths :!: the Orca Whale comes to these nursery shores to find a feed amongst the young sealions, elephant seals and maybe a penguin. Here also the great southern whale comes to breed in the sheltered bays. To get to this wonderful menagerie of nature we drove through the Lake District with its mountains and Lakes! where we saw Black Neck Swans, Flamingos, Eagles and Falcons -- BUT, Pride of place goes to the Condor not only did we see a Condor but it was flapping!!! this is very hard to see as they only flap their wings a few times on take off, then they glide on the thermals, I also saw it tucking its feet away, which I have to say were huge!!

Here in the mountains we drove through 'Switzerland in Patagonia' even down to the chocolate. This is also an area for the Monkey Tree which I understand is pre-historic! and in Bariloche I saw more St Bernard dogs then I have seen in my whole life, from tiny puppies to very large Ma n Pa size dogs, it is also said that Disneys Bambie was inspired here. From the mountains going south we visited the old homestead of Butch Cassidy and the Sun Dance Kid -- Paul Newman was NOT in. but there was a chap there who is a writer and historian on Butch and Sun Dance - we were so lucky he was just about to leave, but stayed and chatted in good english to us telling us lots of facts and interesting stories, he is at the moment writing a book about Sheffield the Pinkelton guy who chased around the counrty. From here we went to the Valleys! we are in Welsh Patagonia we followed the most beautiful road across the pampas and the river with amazing coloured rock green, grey and pink, beautiful. We followed this to the coast where the Welsh landed

We have seen so much variety in every way, so many, so much at times I have just stood with a lump in my throat just with the sheer joy of being here and seeing, I am so lucky.

AND. There is more to see...............................................
